LEPC CF Study

Clinton County Prepares for Commodity Flow Study and Upcoming Virtual Training

Clinton County is advancing a vital initiative to strengthen community safety and emergency preparedness. The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will soon launch a Commodity Flow Study to assess the types and volumes of hazardous materials transported through the county via road, pipeline, rail, and air. This study, beginning in late September 2024, will provide critical data to inform first responders and update the county’s emergency response plans.

The study will involve observations over a period of approximately 10 days, covering 20 different sites throughout the county. By analyzing traffic patterns and transportation routes, the LEPC aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of hazardous materials in transit. This will enhance planning efforts, update response strategies, and ensure the community is better prepared for any potential incidents.

In preparation for this study, the LEPC is hosting a virtual training session to provide an overview of the project and offer guidance on identifying commercial vehicles carrying hazardous cargo. Participants will also learn how to recognize the types of hazardous materials being transported. The training is scheduled for Monday, September 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM and is crucial for first responders and stakeholders involved in public safety and emergency response.

The specific schedule for the Commodity Flow Study is yet to be finalized but is expected to take place between the end of September and the end of November 2024. The LEPC is committed to ensuring that Clinton County remains prepared to handle hazardous material incidents, and this study is a significant part of that ongoing effort.
