Long Term Care Disaster TTX

Teams from four county long term care facilities gathered to test their organizational emergency plans for multiple disasters. Teams from Continental Manor, Laurels of Blanchester, Ohio Living/Cape May, and Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation navigated challenging scenarios with assistance from subject matter experts from Blanchester/Marion Township Fire Department, Clinton County Health Department, and Wilmington Police Department.

Continental Manor: The Continental Manor scenario included a winter weather conditions that included freezing rain and a Level 3 Snow Emergency. The team dealt with deteriorating facility temperatures, wide spread power outages, and a faulty generator all while maintaining resident care.
Laurels of Blanchester: The Laurels of Blanchester scenario involved a facility fire requiring evacuation during the busy Christmas holiday. The team resolved evacuation transport, resident care and sustenance support at a remote location, and crafted a temporary housing plan for displayed residents.
Ohio Living/Cape May: The Ohio Living/Cape May scenario involved an active aggressor scenario that drove facility evacuation and required post incident building rehabilitation. The team navigated evacuation, accountability, liaising with Incident Command, family reunification, and extended housing plan for displaced residents.
Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation: The Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation scenario focused on severe weather that impacted facility and environmental integrity. The team addressed mitigations, leveraged available facility space for resident needs, and navigated care of a recently positive COVID resident and the fatality of their environmental/facilities manager.
